MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis volleyball program added transfer setter Holly Fong, head coach April Jauregui announced today.
"Holly joined our team in the spring," said Jauregui. "She came in and was an immediate fit with our team. I am excited to add an experienced setter to our roster. Having her come this spring allowed her to train and get accustomed to our system. She brings a calmness and smartness to the court."
Fong transfers to Memphis from High Point University where she was a two-year letterwinner as a setter. A native of Sebastopol, Calif., Fong played sparingly as a freshman, but took over the starting setter role as a sophomore in 2009.
The 5-7 Fong, started in all 33 matches for the Panthers in 2009 and set a team-high 1211 assists and averaged 10.01 assists per set. She reached 50 assists five times and posted 14 double-doubles to help HPU to 17 wins. Fong added 58 kills and 33 aces on the offensive side of the net. Defensively, Fong picked up 286 digs (2.36 digs/set) and made 23 total blocks.
In her two seasons at High Point, Fong played in 138 sets and made 35 starts in 43 matches. She totaled over 1300 assists and 64 kills, while racking up 317 digs and 15 double-doubles.
