LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has announced the 2012-13 Team Academic Honorees, with the University of Memphis Volleyball team earning a spot on the list.

The award, which was first awarded during the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average.

"Academic excellence is something we preach, not only within our team, but the entire athletic program," said head coach April Jauregui. "The University of Memphis Athletic Department has a very strong reputation for academic achievement. I am very proud of our players for striving to be their best in the classroom. I expect nothing less."

Memphis Volleyball will host their annual fan fest along with the Blue and Gray game Saturday, August 24th at 3 p.m. They'll open the 2013 season in Nashville August 30 as they compete in the Belmont Tournament, hosted by Belmont University. The Tigers will have their home opener Friday, September 6th at 1 p.m. when they host Alabama A&M University in the first day of the Memphis Invitational.
