MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Shelby Burton and Sarah Bury downed 10 kills each to lead the Blue squad past the Grey, 3-0 (30-20, 30-19, 30-14) in the University of Memphis volleyball Blue-Gray Scrimmage Saturday night at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.

Burton, who hit .600 in the three-game sweep of the rookies, also added five total blocks. The Tiger veterans hit .420 in the scrimmage, including hitting .458 in the opening contest. Laura Côté dished out 30 assists. Bury and libero Christen Clayton made nine digs each to help hold the Gray team to .133 hitting on the night.

The Rookie team fought admirably and got a team-high nine kills from Germantown High product Lauren Thompson. Christine Bach had 24 assists. Emily Underwood had a team-best four total blocks, while Sarah Chambers, Katlin Inglish and Rachel Theard each had five digs.

"It was good for the girls to get a chance to play in a game atmosphere," said head coach Carrie Yerty.

Memphis opens the 2006 season in less than a week, when it takes on Kent State on Aug. 25 at the University of Evansville Aces Invitational.
