Blue Squad Sweeps Gray in Volleyball Scrimmage
Aug. 21, 2007 MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Tiger volleyball team got its final prep work in for the 2007 season with its annual Blue-Gray Scrimmage at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse tonight. Led by 41 assists by Laura Côté and 15 digs by freshman Christine Bach the Blue squad claimed a sweep of the Gray. In a mixed intersquad contest, Sarah Bury led all players with 15 kills, while Ashley Liford and Shelby Burton downed 14 apiece. Freshman middle Blocker Emily Underwood had a solid evening, slamming down 11 kills. On the defensive side of the net, freshman libero Becky Shaffer made a match-high 16 digs for the Gray team. Bury and Côté both completed double-double performances with 10 digs each. The Blue squad made 9.5 blocks on the night, led by Underwood's four rejects. The 6-4 middle blocker finished the night with six total blocks. Burton made five blocks. Memphis will hit the court for its first match of the season on Friday evening, when they take on the Louisville Cardinals in the Louisville Invitational.
