Black Rallies to Five-Set Victory in Final Camp Scrimmage
Aug. 22, 2014
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis volleyball team wrapped up its fall camp with the Blue/Gray scrimmage at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse Friday evening with the Black team taking 3-of-5 games. Seniors Lauren Wright and Aleksandra Petronijevic each contributed with tremendous efforts for the Blue to conclude their final camp.
Overall, the Black claimed games two, four and five to rally toward the victory.
"I'm really pleased," Memphis head coach April Jauregui said following the match. "Our freshmen came to play and our middles showed why they're very dominant. I was pleased with tonight. This is one of the best Blue/Gray's we've had since I've been here."
"It's remarkable what she's able to do with the ball," Jauregui said on Wright's performance. "I'm really glad she's on our team."
Liberos Petronijevic and junior Lindsey Purvis each broke the 20+ dig-plateau for each side. Petronijevic, who needs 195 digs to set the program's all-time mark, dug out 29 balls while Purvis notched 20 digs for the Gray.
The three setters also set the table for both offenses. Freshmen Faith Myers and Regan Comperry dished out 31 and 21 assists, respectively, while junior Veronica Zimmerman handed out 23 helpers in the contest.
"We still have some things to figure out," Jauregui said. "You see on the floor who has things figured out and who has things to work on. When it comes down to it, the team with the best chemistry will get to play on Friday."
The Tigers wrap up preseason camp tomorrow afternoon with a clinic for the Memphis Metro Volleyball Club. To learn more about the volleyball team, visit GoTigersGo.com and follow @MemphisVolley on Twitter and Instagram.
