Tiger Volleyball Earns Game PlanTM/AVCA Team Academic Award
Aug. 23, 2006 MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis volleyball team received the Game PlanTM/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2005-2006 season. One of 54 Division I volleyball programs to be honored, logged a 3.327 cumulative GPA for the 2005-06 school year. The 54 Division I schools to be acknowledged is a single-season record for number of collegiate schools at any division receiving the award. Memphis has garnered the Team Academic Awards three times, including being honored in back-to-back years in 1999-2000 and 2000-01. The Tigers, who placed 10 student-athletes on the Tiger 3.0 Club and 12 on the Conference USA Academic Honor Roll, were one of just three C-USA schools to earn the Academic Award. The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors college and high school teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale and a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale during the school year. Nominating head coaches must be AVCA members. Each school will receive a plaque, and each player a certificate commemorating the designation.
