Harriman Named to Bradley University All-Tournament Team
Sept. 3, 2000
Memphis, Tenn.-- - Senior outside hitter April Harriman (Los Angeles, Calif./Brethren Christian) was named to the Bradley University/Mark Twain Hotels All-Tournament team after her play at this weekend's volleyball tournament.
In the season opener against Wisconsin-Green Bay, Harriman had a career night, setting new single match career highs in kills (24), attempts (47) and digs (18). The Tigers won that match, 3-1.
After suffering from dehydration Friday night after the match, Harriman turned in two gritty performances Saturday in the non-air conditioned Robertson Field House. Against host Bradley, who went 20-6 in 1999, Harriman again led the team with 17 kills, adding eight digs in the 3-0 loss to the eventual tournament champions.
The entire team suffered against a red-hot Toledo team that came into the match after coming back from being down 14-5 to win their third game against UWGB, 17-15. The confident Toledo team gave the Memphis defense fits for the first two games when Harriman again stepped up and led the offense, this time only to the tune of six kills, but leading the defense with nine digs.
The Tigers were 1-2 in the tournament and finished in third place.
This is the second consecutive year that Harriman was named to the season-opening all-tournament team. The lone senior on the 2000 squad, she is also a six-time Dean's List honoree with a 4.0 GPA in both of her double major fields (political science and communications).
The Tigers have a long road trip ahead of them for the upcoming week, competing in the College of Charleston (S.C.) tournament Friday and Saturday and playing at Tennessee, Monday before returning home for their own tournament, Sept. 15-16.
