CINCINNATI - The Tigers begin a new era as they enter play in the American Athletic Conference for the first weekend of play. The team takes to the road for their second ever Conference game, taking on the Cincinnati Bearcats.
Memphis traveled to Louisville for their first match in the American Athletic Conference Friday evening. The Tigers battled back to take the third set after dropping the first two, but could not take the fourth to give the Cardinals the win 3-1 win. The Tigers fall to 8-6 overall and 0-1 in American play while the Cardinals improve to 5-7 overall and 1-0 in American play.
The Tigers finished preconference play with an 8-5 record. They finished preconference season with a 2-1 weekend at their second home tournament of the weekend, the Tiger Invitational. They took down the LaSalle Explorers 3-0 and the Austin Peay Lady Govs 3-1, but were felled by the UALR Trojans 0-3.
Memphis has earned an identical 2-1 record in each of the four weekend tournaments while dropping their loan midweek game to Arkansas State 1-3.
With her 5.61 digs per set, Aleksandra Petronijevic entered the weekend ranked first in the American Athletic Conference and 7th in the nation. Veronica Zimmerman started conference play second in the American with 11.12 assists per set, giving her 545 on the year and putting her at 23rd in the nation in assists per set.
