Following a split on the road last weekend, the University of Memphis volleyball team returns home to face UAB on Friday night. Friday is also Dig Pink night in the Elma Roane Fieldhouse, so be sure to were pink to the contest. The Tigers will then travel to Birmingham to play the same Blazers on Sunday afternoon.

After topping Houston 3-2 to open conference play, UAB has dropped three consecutive contests. Last weekend the Blazers fell at UTEP 3-0 before dropping a five-set match at Tulane on Sunday. The Blazers have played solid defense all season as they rank in Conference USA’s top-five in both blocks and digs. Their average of 2.33 blocks per set ranks second while UAB ranks fourth with an average of 15.19 digs per set. The Blazers also rank fourth in service aces, recording 1.22 per set.

Defensively, UAB is led by senior middle blocker Sam Serley, and junior defensive specialist Rachel Fairbanks. Serley ranks second in the league with an average of 1.29 blocks per set while Fairbanks owns a 4.59 digs per set average, also ranking her second in C-USA. Serley also leads the offense as she leads the league with an attack percentage of .375. Serley’s 182 kills and 2.64 kills per set average lead the Blazers, but Kate Morrell isn’t far behind. She averages 2.61 kills per set and has 146 total kills.


  • For the third weekend in a row, the Tigers will face one of the top hitters in Conference USA. UAB’s Sam Serley leads the league with an attack percentage of .375.
  • Memphis ranks third in C-USA with an average of 1.31 aces per set. The Tigers have recorded at least four aces in 12 matches this season.
  • The Tigers had at least three players record an attack percentage of at least .300 against Tulane, marking the eighth time this season they have accomplished that feat. Memphis is 5-3 in those contests.
  • This weekend’s matchup with UAB two of C-USA’s top-five serving teams. Memphis ranks third at 1.31 aces per set while UAB is fourth at 1.22 aces per set.
  • For the third time this season, Altrese Hawkins (Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates) registered 20 kills in a match, going for 20 in the Tigers’ 3-1 win at Tulane. In the match, Hawkins became the third Tiger to surpass the 1,600 kill plateau. She currently has 1,617 career kills and is in third place in school history.
  • With a pair of double-doubles over the weekend, Hawkins has recorded three straight double-doubles. Earlier this season, Hawkins had a streak of four straight double-doubles.
  • Jaden Louie (Whittier, Calif./Whittier Christian) reached the 50 assist plateau for the first time in her career when she dished out 50 helpers at Tulane. It marked the first time since last November a Tiger handed out 50 assists in a match.
  • With 13 kills at UTEP, Maja Kostic (Belgrade, Serbia) matched her career-high. With her eight kills at Tulane, the senior ranked second on the team with 21 kills last week.
