Oct. 5, 2004
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis baseball team will hold its annual Blue-Gray scrimmage on Sat., Oct. 9. The 10-inning scrimmage, which will pit the Memphis veterans against the newcomers, will take place as the main event of the baseball program's Parents Weekend festivities. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Nat Buring Stadium.
The veterans, the Blue squad, will be coached by assistant coaches Mike Federico and former Tiger Corey Kines. The team will showcase the Tiger's 2004 batting champ in junior Bill Moss, along with hits leader Chad House, 2003 batting champ and All-C-USA designated hitter Ryan Martin and Jordan Hart, who led Memphis with 13 outfield assists.
Coach Schoenrock and assistant Greg Olsen will manage the Gray team. The rookies are highlighted by 11 newcomers from the Mid-South area, including Arkansas State transfers Daniel Cates and Kyle Moffitt. Brent Moss, brother of Bill Moss, and Brad Fly, brother of pitcher Ryan Fly, are also on the Gray squad.
All healthy pitchers will see action in the 10-inning battle, and both batting orders will be arranged alphabetically.
In Schoenrock's coaching career, the veterans have never lost to the rookies, holding a 16-0-1 advantage.
The Tigers finished the 2004 season with a winning mark at 29-28 mark and an appearance in the C-USA Tournament, both of which were firsts since the 2001 season.
