After playing a home and home with UAB last weekend, the University of Memphis volleyball team will play two home games this weekend. The Tigers first host UCF on Friday before facing Southern Miss on Saturday. Both matches will start at 7:00 p.m. in the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.

Following a six-match losing streak, the Knights have split their last four matches. UCF is coming off a weekend where they fell to SMU 3-1 before defeating Tulsa 3-1. UCF currently ranks fourth in Conference USA in assists as they average 11.71 helpers per set.

Setter Marie Reiterova ranks 10th in C-USA with an average of 7.05 assists per set while Angelica Crump leads the Knight offense with 212 kills (3.26 per set). Their defense is led by Meredith Murphy and DeLaina Sarden, who average 3.72 digs and 0.88 blocks per set, respectively. Sarden also ranks seventh in league with a .318 attack percentage.

Southern Miss has dropped their last three matches, including losses to Tulsa (3-1) and SMU (3-0) last weekend. The Golden Eagles rank near the middle of C-USA in most categories, including their seventh place ranking of 12.37 kills per set.

Kristen Fleming is handing out 10.28 assists per set, which leads the team and ranks third in the league. Jasmine Crowell and Halie Ecker lead the Golden Eagle attack with 210 kills (3.13 per set) and 195 kills (3.10 per set), respectively. Elizabeth Rinaudo leads the defense, and ranks sixth in C-USA with an average of 4.10 digs per set.

STORYLINES

  • The Tigers recorded 96 digs on Friday against Tulane, marking the first time since 2008 Memphis reached the 90 dig plateau. The Tigers registered 99 digs against IUPUI in 2008.
  • Memphis served up nine aces at UAB on Sunday, their second highest total of the season. The Tigers’ season-high of 11 came against Florida Gulf Coast on September 8.
  • The Tigers had 192 attack attempts on Friday night against UAB, marking their highest total since 2009 when the registered 189 attempts against UALR.
  • On Friday night, Memphis recorded more kills than UAB (60-55). The Tigers are 6-2 in matches when they have more kills than their opponent.
  • Memphis recorded a season-high 11.0 blocks on Friday night against UAB. Katie Meyer (Dalton, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) matched a career-high with eight stuffs in the match.
  • Libero Aleksandra Petronijevic (Belgrade, Serbia) posted a career-high 36 digs against UAB. It marked the first time in her career she reached the 30 dig plateau.
  • Maja Kostic (Belgrade, Serbia) had a stellar week for the Tigers, posting the first two double-doubles of her career. She matched her career-high of 13 kills and set a career-high with 20 digs on Friday against UAB. She then went for 12 kills and 12 digs on Sunday at UAB.
  • Altrese Hawkins (Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates) continues to move up Memphis’ all-time kills list as she moved into second place over the weekend. She currently has 1,642 career kills. Monique Swaby is the leader at 1,789.
