MEMPHIS, Tenn. -The Tigers enter the third week of conference play in the American and will have their American Athletic Conference home opener as they face the SMU Mustangs Friday evening at 7 p.m. at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.

The Tigers entered conference play with an 8-5 record, sporting identical 2-1 records in each of the four weekend tournaments where they competed in addition to a midweek loss to Arkansas State.

The Tigers spent their first weekend of conference play on the road, splitting their matches. Memphis lost the conference opener at Louisville Friday night before bouncing back for a 5-set win against Cincinnati Sunday afternooon.

During the second week they hit the road again, traveling to Philadelphia take on the Temple Owls. The Owls entered the game with a 10-4 record overall and conference record equal to the Tigers at 1-1. The teams battled closely, but the Owls were able to best the Tigers 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-21). 

Memphis hosted the SMU Mustangs for the Tigers conference home opener Friday evening at the Elma Fieldhouse. The Tigers returned to the Fieldhouse for their conference opener after spending the first two weeks of conference play the road. The Mustangs came out on top of an intense 3-1 (25-13, 26-24, 25-11, 25-17) final score.

Catlin Lilly entered the weekend No. 8 in the conference with 3.28 kills per set, while teammate Viktorija Teivane sits at No. 9 with 3.07. Lilly is one of three freshman in the top-10 for the conference, with Houston's Sarita Mikals just ahead of Lilly at No. 4, putting down 3.48 kills per set and Maya McClendon of Louisville at No. 9 with 3.08.
