MEMPHIS, Tenn. –The University of Memphis Volleyball team (15-7; 4-5) will compete in a pair of Conference USA matches this weekend, traveling to play Rice on Friday and hosting Houston on Sunday at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. The Tigers take on the Owls at 7 p.m. Friday and the Cougars at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Memphis split a pair of C-USA home matches, as the Tigers earned a tough, five-set victory over SMU on Friday before falling in straight sets to Tulsa on Sunday. Altrese Hawkins led the way in the win over SMU, as she became only the sixth Tiger to ever record 30 kills in a single match. Hajnalka Molnar registered a double-double in the win over SMU as well, registering 56 assists and tallying a career-high tying 17 digs. Vesna Jelic also finished with another double-double of 13 kills and 13 digs.

Sunday’s match against Houston at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse is the official Dig Pink game. Fans wearing pink will receive free admission, and the first 500 people there will receive free pink rally towels. Visit the Memphis Dig Pink page to give back to the Side-Out Foundation.

Scouting Rice
The Owls bring a 11-9 overall record and 6-3 C-USA mark into this weekend after splitting a pair of C-USA games last weekend. Rice fell 3-1 to UCF at Tudor Fieldhouse before rallying for a 3-0 victory on Sunday over UTEP. Nancy Cole has led the offense with 221 kills on the season, while Laurie McNamara has downed 188 of her own. Megan Murphy leads the squad with 823 assists on the season, while Megan White has anchored the defense with 335 digs.

Scouting Houston
The Cougars have won four-straight C-USA games coming into this weekend after picking up back-to-back 3-1 wins over UTEP and UCF last weekend. Overall, Houston sits at 7-2 in C-USA play and 14-5 overall. Lucy Charul (225) and Katie Norris (216) lead the Cougars in kills, while Caitlin Ogletree (794) leads the team in assists. Natalie Keck has ancored the back row with 310 digs this season.

WEEKLY NOTES

Double-Double
Vesna Jelic picked up her third double-double of the season with a 13 kill/13 dig effort in a five-set win over SMU. Marija Jovanovic recorded her fourth double-double (15 kills/11 digs) in the SMU win, and Hajnalka Molnar had her team-leading sixth double-double of 56 assists and 17 digs.

Climbing the Ladder
Altrese Hawkins became the 21st person in Memphis Volleyball history to down 1,000 kills in her career. She picked up her 1000th in the first set against Howard and is now 15th all-time in the Memphis record book with 1,143 career kills.

Like a Hawk
Altrese Hawkins continues to ink her name in the Memphis record books. Her newest accomplishment was downing 30 kills in a single match, becoming just the sixth Tiger in Memphis history to do so.

Fab 50
With a 3-2 victory over SMU, Memphis head coach April Jauregui picked her 54th win at the helm of the program. She now ranks sixth on the all-time coaching wins list.

Acing the Competition
Memphis leads C-USA with 147 aces (1.88 sa/s) with four players ranking in the top seven in the conference in aces. Hajnalka Molnar leads the way with 30 aces (.43 sa/s), while Marija Jovanovic (.37 sa/s), Maja Kostic (.32 sa/s), and Vesna Jelic (.30 sa/s) join her in the top 10.
