Petronijevic Named AVSR Global Player of the Week
Nov. 5, 2012
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Sophomore libero Aleksandra Petronijevic may have had one of the best weeks of the season last week. She averaged more than 6.5 digs per set, and was named AVSR (American Volleyball Scouting Report) Global Player of the Week. The Belgrade, Serbia native started the week with a dazzling 33-dig performance in Memphis’ 3-2 win over Marshall. Petronijevic followed that up with a 26-dig performance in the Tigers’ 3-1 win over East Carolina. She leads the Tigers with 509 digs, eclipsing the 500 dig plateau for the first time in her career. Her 4.50 digs per set average this season ranks third in Conference USA. This is the second time Petronijevic has earned this award, and the first this season. Memphis concludes regular season play this weekend when they travel to Southern Miss and UCF. The Tiger play at Southern Miss on Friday at 7:00 p.m. before taking on UCF on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. (CT). Memphis is in a three-way tie for seventh place in C-USA. The top eight teams will qualify for the C-USA Tournament that will take place in Tulsa, Okla., on November 16-18.
