MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Head Coach Carrie Yerty announced Tiger volleyball's first signee of the early signing period Wednesday, as Penn High School's Kelsey Labrum signed her National Letter of Intent to play her collegiate volleyball career at the University of Memphis.

A native of Granger, Ind., Labrum signs with the Tigers after being recruited by notable volleyball programs such as Florida State and Miami (Fla.).

"The coaches were down to earth," Labrum said. "I loved the campus and most of all felt at home on my visit."

Labrum starred on the volleyball court for both Mishawaka Marian High School and Penn High School. She helped guide MMHS to an appearance in the Indiana State finals as a freshman, and earned Second Team All-State accolades in her freshman and sophomore seasons. Labrum also garnered First Team All Northern Indiana Conference recognition while at Marian.

At Penn High she earned a pair of First Team All-NIC honors under head coach Lisa Pawlik. The 5-10 outside hitter was tabbed a First Team All-State performer as a senior after downing 388 kills and making 374 digs. Labrum led the Kingsmen to a 31-8 mark and an Indiana Class 4-A Regional Championship appearance as a senior.

She played her club volleyball for the Dunes Volleyball Club, where she played both the outside and right side hitter positions.

A two-sport athlete, Labrum lettered one year track in addition to playing volleyball, competing in the 400-meter dash, the 4x4 relay and the long jump.

"I am extremely excited about signing a player of Kelsey's caliber," said Yerty. "She had a stellar high school and club career and I anticipate her continued athletic success here as a Tiger. I look forward to working with her and watching her develop."
