Volleyball Nets Rowlett High School's Lauren Hawkins for 2011
Nov. 10, 2010
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis volleyball program kicked off the early signing period by inking Rowlett High School standout Lauren Hawkins to a National Letter of Intent Memphis head coach April Jauregui announced today.
"Lauren (Hawkins) is a great kid with a solid work ethic and a desire to be the best she can be," said Jauregui. "That to me was one of the main factors in adding her to our program. It also doesn't hurt that she is 6-2 and has a heavy arm swing. I am uncertain at this point the position Lauren will fill. That is a positive since she can swing from all 3 positions on the court. Her strength lies in hitting fast attack options and she is a good slide attacker. I am excited for her to join our team and begin training. I feel there are a lot of things she can immediately add to our program."
A middle blocker/right side hitter, Hawkins has put together a decorated prep career at RHS. A four-time All-District 10-5A selection, Hawkins helped guide the Lady Eagles to District 10-5A crowns in 2007 and 2008. She was tabbed Rowlett High School's Offensive Player of the Year and team MVP after leading the Lady Eagles to a co-District 10-5A title and a Texas 5A Playoff Area Championship in 2009. The 6-2 Hawkins led RHS to a pair of Texas 5A Playoff Bi-District titles in 2008 and 2010.
Hawkins also excels in the classroom, where she maintains a 3.6 GPA. She has been named a First Team All-District performer for each the last four years.
A dual-sport athlete, Hawkins also lettered on the hardwood at Rowlett High School. She plays club volleyball for MadFrog Volleyball Club.
