Memphis Volleyball Set to Close Out 2011 Season

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis volleyball will travel to Birmingham, Ala. to take on UAB Wednesday at 7 p.m. in its final match of the 2011 season.
Memphis picked up a pair of Conference USA road wins last weekend, outlasting Marshall in a five-set thriller Friday and sweeping ECU 3-0 on Sunday. Hajnalka Molnar and Altrese Hawkins led the Tigers Friday's match against Marshall as each registered double-doubles. The Tigers improved to 19-13 overall and 8-11 in C-USA with the two victories.
The Blazers lead C-USA limiting opposing team's attach, holding teams to a .163 hitting percentage on average. UAB is also a very good blocking team, ranking second in the league with an average of 2.77 blocks per set. Sam Serley (275) and Kate Morrell (268) lead the team in kills, and Ally Slaughter also has 226.
Heather Thomas leads a defense that averages 16.49 digs per match with 601 total digs on the season. Alison Woods and Becca Howard split time at the setting position, averaging 5.81 and 4.48 assists per set, respectively.
