Softball Drops Two on Day One of Arizona State Tournament

Tigers fall to #17 ASU
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis softball team (1-6) dropped a pair of games on the first day of the Arizona State Littlewood Classic in Tempe. Memphis fell to Illinois State in its first game, 12-3, then faced #17 ranked home team, Arizona State, falling 11-3.
Memphis plays game two of the event on Saturday, facing Montana at 11:15 a.m. (MT), then facing Michigan State, a team Memphis also faced at the Florida Gulf Coast tournament last weekend, at 1:30 p.m. (MT).

- - Illinois State got on the board first after the lead-off hitter, Annie Heinemann, drew walk and advanced to second on a ground out. Regan Romshek then reached on an error and advanced to second, while Heinemann scored. Romshek then made it 2-0 ISU when Jordan de los Reyes doubled.
- -ISU pitcher Sarah Finck then struck out six straight and forced the next six batters in to ground outs to head to the sixth inning with a 2-0 lead.
- -The RedBirds broke the game open in the top of the 6th, when the lead-off hitter again got on base, this time via an error. Allison Spence homered in the next at-bat, scoring two runs.
- - Memphis moved freshman Tyler Johnson from third to short after a second error from short, inserting fellow freshman Regan Hadley at third for the first time this season.
- -With one out and with runners at first and second, Riley Hale then homered for a 7-0 ISU lead. The RedBirds would go yard again with two runners on when Riley Strandgard homered for a 10-0 lead.
- -Bayleigh Wisher made her second appearance of the year after the Strandgard runs scored, walking the first batter she faced, then striking out Payton Billups to get out of the inning.
- - Memphis quickly answered back in the bottom of the sixth, needing runs in order to extend the game to a seventh inning.
- -Lindsey Crowdus opened the inning with her first double of the season. A Kyler Trosclair single moved her over to third and a Brittany Seale single scored the RBI. That was Seale' fourth RBI this year.
- -Jessie Lamb made her third appearance on the season, pinch running for Seale.
- - Lindsey Stickrod singled to move Lamb to second and Lamb scored when Tyler Johnson reached on an error.
- -Trosclair scored her team-best seventh run of the season on the error.
- -Finck closed out the win with a strikeout and two groundouts to end the Tiger threat in the seventh. She faced 28 batters, striking out nine with no walks and three runs, just one earned, in her second win of the season.
- -Molly Smith took the loss for Memphis, falling to 1-3 on the season. In 5.2 innings pitched. She gave up 10 runs, eight earned, walked four and struck out two of the 32 batters she faced.
- -Bayleigh Wisher stepped in to the circle and went for 1.1 innings, allowing two runs, both earned, striking out one and walking one. It was her second appearance of the season.

- - Freshman Regan Hadley made her first career start at third base while Tyler Johnson made her seventh start of the season, but her first start at shortstop.
- -Memphis again had a first inning error that put the Tigers in a hole. The Tigers trailed the home team 9-0 after the first.
- -Freshman Adriana Morgan came in with Memphis trailing 8-0 with two outs in the first inning.
- -Hadley got her first career hit in the top of the third inning; she advanced on an Addi Maxwell single, Maxwell's first hit of the season, and scored when Kyler Trosclair reached on an error. That error scored both Hadley and Maxwell.
- -Trosclair scored her eighth run of the season, which leads the team, when Hannah Harrell grounded out to third. The RBI was the second of the year for Harrell.
- -Arizona State answered the Tigers' three runs with a pair of their own to push the score to 11-3.
- -Pitcher Dale Ryndak closed out the win with a strikeout and a pair of groundouts to improve to 3-0 on the season.
