Tigers claim 3-1 win in home opener

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In the 2018 home opener, the Memphis softball squad claimed a 3-1 victory against the Fort Wayne Mastodons in the first day of the Blues City Classic.
Memphis (8-5) turned nine hits into a trio of runs, and four no-hit innings from reliever Mariah Nichols helped seal the win.
The Tigers struck first with a solo home run off the bat of Brooke Lee. Fort Wayne (7-10) evened the game with an RBI knock in the top of the third, before Memphis regained the lead in the fifth inning.
Ashley Threatt delivered an insurance run in the home half of the sixth with an RBI single, while Nichols sat the Mastodons down in order to close the game.
Who Stood Out
Tyler Johnson / INF / Junior / Lakewood, Calif.
Johnson ripped her second career triple in the fourth inning. The junior also plated the final run of the game in the sixth inning.
Ashley Threatt / UT / Junior / Big Rock, Tenn.
Threatt collected a pair of hits and drove in an insurance run.
Brooke Lee / UT / Senior / Meraux, La.
Lee blasted her fourth home run of the season. Lee's solo shot to right field in the second inning also provided the game's first run.
Mariah Nichols / P / Freshman / Lone Oak, Texas
Nichols tossed four innings of no-hit ball. The freshman also tallied three strikeouts in the third win of the season.

- Top 3 – Courtney Holm led off the inning with a double and trotted to third after a wild pitch. An RBI single from Lacey Wilzbacher drove in Holm and evened the score. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Bottom 5 – Ashley Threatt opened the frame with a base hit, when Lamb checked in to pinch run. Parker pushed Lamb to second on a sacrifice bunt, and a Trosclair Klatt single put Lamb on third. Baylee Smith flied out to right field to drive in Lamb. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
- Bottom 6 – Tyler Johnson reached base on a fielder's choice. After a single from Delaney Smith, Ashley Threatt drove in her second RBI of the day, scoring Johnson and setting the 3-1 final. (1 run, 3 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
