Memphis Drops Back and Forth Match to Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Tigers drop their final match against Toledo 3-1. The Tigers took set one before giving up three straight sets. All four sets went to extra points, with service errors and aces playing a role in the final score of the match. Abigail Schlueter was named to the All-Tournament team. Schlueter recorded 68 digs through the tournament.
Toledo 3, Memphis 1
Up Next: The Tigers will head on the road again to Seattle, Wash. For the Huskie Invitational, Thursday Sept. 7 through Friday Sept. 8. Memphis will take on UNLV, Washington and FIU.

Toledo 3, Memphis 1
- Toledo took an early lead in the first set. Memphis climbed its way back into the mix due to multiple service errors from the Rockets.
- Toledo went on a 5-0 run midway through the first set leading into the media timeout, Memphis took back-to-back points off a kill and a block from Clara Bednarek.
- The Tigers tied up the set late at 20-20 with a service ace from Loren Robertson.
- The back and forth continued through the end, taking it to extra points, before Memphis closed out the with a service ace from Rylee Busse.
- The Rockets took off to start the second set, taking an early four-point lead, capitalizing off back-to-back errors from the tigers.
- Memphis went on a four-point run midway through the second set, climbing out of its deficit, capitalizing off attacking errors from Toledo and kills from Tabytha Toelke.
- Memphis forced extra points once again, however Toledo took set two on a kill from Izzy Granger.
- The Tigers got off to a hot start, going on a four-point run to create a gap between the Rockets.
- Toledo began the climb back and brought it back to the point-for-point seen through the previous two sets. The Rockets sent the set into extra points before taking the set on a solo block.
- Toledo went on a six-point run early on, led by three service aces, forcing a Memphis timeout. The Tigers went on their own run, as Busse served three straight service aces to take back the lead.
- The Tigers and the Rockets battled back and forth through the back half of the set, Hannah Jones being a bright spot for Memphis, taking advantage of scoring opportunities to keep them in the match.
- The fourth set went into extra points before Toledo won the match with a block to end it.
- Four Tigers hit double digits: Toelke led with 18, Bednarek with 11 and Reilly Briggs and Jones with 10 apiece.
- Schlueter finished the match with 26 digs, followed by Toelke with 20, Mackenzie Leach with 13 and Robertson with 12.
- Memphis tallied nine aces from three players: Busse (4), Robertson (3), and Leach (2).
