Tigers Track And Field Opens Season Saturday

Teams combined for 18 top-five finishes at the Commodore Indoor Opener.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – University of Memphis' Destinee Lansden and Davon DeMoss each posted two top-five finishes to lead the Tigers at the Commodore Indoor Opener Saturday. The meet, which was held on the Vanderbilt University campus, was Memphis' first of the indoor campaign.
The meet was a non-scoring team event.
Overall, Memphis had 18 top-five performances (13 men, 5 women) at the Commodore Indoor Opener.
Lansden won the 400m in a time of 54.93 and also posted a third-place finish in the 200m (25.10). DeMoss' two top-five performances both were fourth-place finishes in the 60m (6.89) and 200m (22.53).
Memphis had three other first-place finishes. On the women's side, Carolina Carmichael placed first in the pole vault with a mark of 13-7.25. For the men, LaForrest Church won the 800m in a time of 1:50.53 and also was a member of the first-place 4x400m relay team (3:16.31). Joining Church on the 4x400m relay were Antaun Andrews, Lucas Miller and Chris Walker.
Chardae Greenlee, a 2015 indoor triple jump All-American, finished second overall in the triple jump (41-7), but was the top collegiate finisher in the event.
The men's squad also had two other top-three performances. Alex Klatt placed second behind Church in the 800m with a time of 1:50.74, and Yannik Schaly was third in the shot put (53-5).
The Tigers now take a break from competition over the holidays. Memphis returns to action Jan. 22-23 when it travels to Jonesboro, Ark., to compete in the A-State Invitational and Multis.
