Memphis and Louisville Tie 1-1 in Exhibition Match

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis got its first opportunity to test itself against another opponent on Saturday night as Louisville came to town. The Tigers and Cardinals played an even match, which finished as a 1-1 draw.

There will be one more preseason match, as Memphis will host Union University Friday at 9 a.m. on the Park Avenue Campus.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the 32nd minute on a set-piece opportunity. Sophomore David Zalzman whipped in a free kick to the back post and freshman Jackson Morse headed the ball into the back of the net to give Memphis a 1-0 lead.

Memphis held its lead into the second half before Louisville tied it up in the 67th minute. Ricardo Oliveros was played in with a through ball and he slotted the ball past substitute goalkeeper Erik Furseth.

Louisville held a decided advantage in shots during the match but the majority of the shots were off target or blocked by Tiger defenders.

The Tigers are preparing for the season opener against UAB on August 26 at 7 p.m. in Birmingham, Ala.
