Tigers score all four goals in the second half

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Strong pressure early paid off in the second as the University of Memphis men's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 victory over Belmont Friday evening. The Tigers scored all four goals in the second half to improve to 2-1-0 on the year.

"In the first half I thought Belmont did a good job of containing us," said head coach Richard Mulrooney. "We made some adjustments at halftime and picked up our tempo a bit. I think the ball finally just bounced in where we got one and from there we gained confidence."

The goal scoring was ignited in the 48^th minute as Jordan Klipsch registered his first tally of the season. After Belmont was charged with a foul outside of the box, David Zalzman served a ball to the left side where Klipsch was there to head it in.

Jackson Morse continued the scoring in the 59^th minute after finishing a ball by Alec Velez. Morse now leads the team with two goals this season.

Goals in the 79^th and 86^th minutes by Julio Vargas and Mason Morise provided insurance for Memphis en route to its home opener victory. The last two goals were both assisted by freshman Rimington Pimm.

The Tigers finished the game with 24 shots compared to just 10 by Belmont. Ten of the Tiger shots were on goal and junior goalkeeper Jake Leeker tallied three saves in his second shutout of the year.

Memphis is now 14-1-0 all-time against Belmont and the shutout Friday evening was the second-straight shutout by the Tiger defense against the Bruins, with the last coming in 2014. Both wins this season have been shutouts by the Tigers.
