Memphis finishes Felsberg Invitational with a 3-2 record after falling to FIU Sunday
MIAMI, Fla. – The University of Memphis softball team fell in extra innings in the final game of the Felsberg Invitational Sunday morning to FIU. In the third game against FIU this weekend, Memphis lost by a score of 3-2 and the Tigers drop to 3-2 on the year.
The game started off slow for both teams offensively until Memphis scored first in the top of the fourth inning. After scoring their first run on a single by Addison Maxwell, the Tigers took advantage of defensive miscues to score their second run of the inning.
Memphis held FIU at bay until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Panthers evened up the contest at 2-2. The Tigers then had an opportunity to go up on the host team in the top of the seventh inning on an apparent sacrifice fly, the Tigers had a runner called out for leaving early.
FIU proceeded to string together three-straight singles in the bottom of the ninth inning to score the game-winning run and take the final game away from the Tigers.

Overall thoughts on the game.
"I thought for the fifth game of the weekend, we came out ready to play. Bayleigh Wisher did a great job of coming out ready to pitch. She kept us in the ball game for almost five innings. We did a good job of scoring first and pulling out two runs in the game. It was definitely a better defensive day for us. Yesterday I felt we struggled a bit defensively and today we cleaned that up. We made some really clutch plays when we needed to, we just didn't walk away with the win."
Next Up For The Tigers
The Tigers will remain on the road next weekend for the DeMarini Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. First pitch against Boise State on Feb. 17 is set for 2:15 p.m. CT. Memphis will compete against Boise State, Utah State, Hawaii, UNLV, and Nevada over the course of the weekend.
