Five Personal-Bests Set At Crimson Tide Invitational Friday

Ladd ties career-best finish, within five seconds of school record.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of Memphis' Chelsea Ladd tied a career-best finish in the women's 5000 meters to pace the Tigers track and field's first-day effort at the 2017 Crimson Tide Invitational Friday. Ladd placed third in a time of 16:53.21.
Ladd's third-place performance tied her career-best finish, as she also placed third in the event at this outdoor season-opening meet at the Rhodes Invitational Mar. 17.
Five distance performers, including Ladd, set personal-best times in the 5000 meters Friday.

- In addition to tying her career-best finish in the women's 5000 meters, junior Chelsea Ladd set a personal-best outdoor time of 16:53.21 Friday. Her previous outdoor top time was 16:55.98.
- Chelsea Ladd's time of 16:53.21 was just under five seconds from the school record (16:48.86).
- Junior Megan Briley shattered her personal-best 5000 meters time Friday. She ran a 17:44.22, besting her previous top time by over 50 seconds (18:35.32).
- Sophomore Mary Minkler ran a personal-best 18:24.03 in the women's 5000 meters. She crushed her previous-best time by over 20 seconds (18:45.92).
- In the men's 5000 meters, junior James Durkin placed 16th in a personal-best time of 15:12.17. Durkin's time was 11 seconds better than his previous best (15:23.26).
- Junior Arnica Zitting, a transfer from Arkansas State, ran a personal-best outdoor time (17:09.71) in the women's 5000 meters Friday. She bettered her outdoor personal-best by nearly six seconds (17:15.18).
