No. 9 Tigers Record Ninth Shutout in Win at Tulsa
Oct 02, 2025 | Women's Soccer
TULSA, Okla. – No. 9 Memphis women's soccer won a third consecutive match on Thursday night, seeing out a 1-0 victory against Tulsa.
The Tigers (10-0-2, 4-0-1 American) have now gone 24 regular season conference games without a loss and remain one of the five teams unbeaten in 2025.
Flavie Dubé drew a penalty in the 40th minute after rounding the goalkeeper, and Finley Lavin stepped up and calmly slotted it home for her first goal since 2023.
"We came out a bit lackadaisical in the first half; it wasn't up to the standard of a top-10 team," said head coach Brooks Monaghan. "It was the first time I wasn't pleased with the response, until the second half where I thought we were much better. We were a bit unlucky not to get a goal to put the game away, but glad to get the win and get out of here."
The hosts came out looking for the upset and started the game positively but only turned it into two shots with neither hitting the frame in the half. An early potential penalty went to review after Dubé went down in the box, but the referees ruled the contact marginal and play resumed scoreless.
Ashley Henderson hit the post early in the half after creating space for herself, but the action was tepid until five minutes to go before the break. Alex Mackay hit a lofted pass towards the penalty area that Dubé outran the defense to get to, and she dribbled around goalkeeper Tatum Sanders to earn the foul and the penalty.
With Henderson resting before the halftime break, Lavin stepped up for her first ever collegiate penalty, sending the keeper the wrong way to give Memphis the advantage at halftime.
The Tigers looked much more comfortable after the intermission, maintaining control of the ball and creating some solid chances. Sanders was forced into five saves in the second half and seven overall, including three from Henderson shots which were a major threat but could not find the back of the net.
A very physical match, the Golden Hurricane were called for 16 fouls while Memphis was called for 15. The Tigers outshot their opponents, 18-3, with eight going on target while Abby Kudla went untested in goal.
Memphis is back in action next Thursday, October 9, at home against North Texas at 7:00 p.m.
