Memphis Falls to Alabama in Four Sets to Open Crimson Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Memphis (7-4) dropped its opening match of the Crimson Classic, falling to Alabama (8-1) in four sets inside Foster Auditorium on Thursday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Alabama started the first set with a 7-0 run before Janyah Henderson put Memphis on the board. The Crimson Tide controlled the frame, taking the set 25-8 behind a combined seven kills from Maddie Snider and Victoria Barrett.
In the second set, both teams started to trade points with kills from Za'Niya Boyles and Henderson. Riley McCloskey added two kills to make it a 7-11 game for the Tigers. Snider and Sophie Agee extended Alabama's lead to 20-12. The Crimson Tide took advantage of two Memphis errors to take the set, 25-19.
Memphis found momentum in the third, going point-for-point with the Crimson Tide. With the set tied late, Hannah Parant put Alabama up 24-23 with a solo block, but a service error kept Memphis alive. Jasmyn Tate answered with a block of her own to push it to set point, and an Alabama attack error sealed a 27-25 win for Memphis.
In the fourth, Memphis continued to push, but Snider and Agee delivered late kills to secure the match for Alabama, 25-23.
NOTABLES
· Jasmyn Tate made her 2025 debut for the Tigers with five kills, two digs and seven points.
· Brianna Washington matched her career high in kills and blocks with seven and three, respectively.
· Riley McCloskey set new season highs in kills, points and digs with five, two and five respectively.
UP NEXT
Memphis will close the Crimson Classic on Friday at 4 p.m. against UCF. This neutral site contest will not be broadcast, but fans can follow the match on Memphis Volleyball social media.
